Whoohoo!
A sharp-shinned hawk
in my garden
and right outside my window
as I walked inside the kitchen after being in Galena all weekend
and of course I couldn't find my camera
and when I did he raised his wings
and I just shot before he lifted off.
I did a bird count in Galena
but who knew I'd come home to see this fella
....at least he didn't carry off one of my precious squirrels
....Happy Jack...you won the lottery today and don't know it
joy

ReplyDeleteI took many, but they were all blurry...I was in such a hurry and shot through the glass...and yes..he was so close and beautiful........for a hawk, that is
DeleteWhoaaaaaa. Is that thing blue? Whatever you're doing to attract these owls and hawks, keep doing it:) You must have a very hardy squirrel population:)
ReplyDeletehey! watch your mouth about my squirrels! ;)
DeleteNo, he isnt blue..but white and yellowish brown streakky with stripes on the tail...with a shot of yellow on his beak and of course those feet..yellow!
I saw another Bald Eagle this weekend too! on the Pecatonica river.....!!!! whoo hoo
I am so jealous! I have yet to see a Bald Eagle in the wild. That hawk is really cool. Get more bird feeders:) LOL!!
Deleteyou wont' believe this...but last year...a car was stopped along the road alongside the Pecatonica...he had his tripod out...we were traveling at about 50 mph past him....no time to stop.....but I looked over and in the brushes reeds....open wetland....were dozens of Bald eagles...some in trees some on the ground....holy smokers!
DeleteSo everytime we pass this spot I look
and it never fails...there has been at least one....
someday we'll stop.......I am not the driver .you see

Suz,
ReplyDeleteWe have lots of these birds hanging around poles and watching the bird feeders for any bird they can quickly chase and kill.
I guess they have to eat too but I always make sure the bird feeder is near a spruce tree so the other birds have a chance for a quick escape. They are a very pretty bird and you got a nice shot of him/her.
did you say lots?
Delete:O
I love the Hawks....
ReplyDeleteI have a Copper's Hawk that keeps the sparrow population in check.
