It rained all night
and I will not be taking a walk in the garden today.
But this morning as I opened the kitchen shutter
I saw a Rose breasted Grosbeak sitting in the
feeder tray attached to the deck just inches from the window.
Of course, he flew away immediately
before I could get my camera...
But I did shout out to my husband
A Rose breasted !

The Servceberries are loaded with ripening berries
I wait for the cedar waxwings to arrive
as they do in a huge flock
and with the Robins...they pick them clean in one afternoon
Ah...joy

  1. What a nice surprise to see out your window. I'm not sure if I have ever seen a rose grosbeak. Last Sunday morning I got early and took my binoculars down to the creek to see what was going on and saw a huge flock of ceder waxwing in the eucalyptus trees. They are one of my favorite birds. I was surprised to see them because I thought they only hung out in this area in winter.

  4. I would be shouting with delight too. What a beautiful bird! I don't think I have ever seen one, as they only migrate through my southern state.

  7. Suz,
What a beautiful bird. I have seen a few of these birds but they are not a constant visitor to the Island. I just love it when you have such beautiful photo's to go with your blog.
The tree's are just starting to bud now. It seems so weird to think the birds are already cleaning off the berries.
    Have a great weekend.
